The transmitter is installed beside the tracks some distance before the switching points: the receiver is installed on the maintenance car.
When the points are closed, the switching control box turns on the power to the transmitter, as the maintenance car approaches, the receiver detects the emitted microwaves and warns the driver to stop the vehicle, if he fails to brake within the warning zone, the car is automatically stopped.
